Mom PopUP! | THURSDAY | March 24 | 7:00–9:00 pm

$50.00

Needs a minimum of 5 bring your Mom crew!! (Of course Dads and all adults are welcome!)

So what Mom doesn’t need a little more Zen-time for herself?

This month we’re experimenting with Temporal Art, using objects to create temporary visual installations that we photograph, rearrange, photograph again etc., inspired by the tradition of Tibetan Buddhist sand painting, where the act of making is the primary focus because the finished piece is destroyed shortly after completion, a metaphor for the impermanence of all things. We’ll take a quick look at the work of a few artists who use time as an element in their work as well, like Robert Smithson, Andy Goldsworthy, Yoko Ono, Néle Azevedo, & Joseph Beuys. The work you’ll take home will be the photographs you take, artifacts of the temporary installations you create over the course of the evening.

I’ve had the amazing good fortune to inherit an incredible collection of objects that belonged to the late board-game designer, James Winslow, a long-time Maplewood resident! We’ll use many of the objects from this collection for the temporal art that you create. Bring objects, organic or otherwise, that you may be collecting because you love their shape, texture, size or color to include in these temporary installations, as well.

Come celebrate your inner Warrior and make art for fun because it’ll nourish you.
