MOM PopUp! | THURSDAY | APRIL 28 | 7:30–9:30PM

$50.00

Needs a minimum of 5. Bring your Mom crew!!
(Of course Dads and all adults are welcome!)

So what Mom doesn’t need a little more Zen-time for herself?

This month we’re experimenting again (because we had so much fun doing this in the March Mom Pop-Up!) with Temporal Art, using objects to create temporary visual installations that we photograph, rearrange, photograph again etc. This workshop is inspired by the tradition of Tibetan Buddhist sand painting, where the act of making is the primary focus because the finished piece is always destroyed shortly after completion, a metaphor for change and the impermanence of things. Playing with objects and considering color, texture, shape, patterns…it’s making art that’s about pure play, just like your kids get to do with legos, blocks, Magna-Tiles, beads….

I’ve had the amazing good fortune to inherit an incredible collection of objects that belonged to the late board-game designer, James Winslow, a long-time Maplewood resident! We’ll use many of the objects from this collection for the temporal art that you create. Feel free to bring objects that you may collect because you love their shape or texture or size, as well.

Come celebrate your inner Warrior and make art for fun because it’ll nourish you.
